Missing a paycheck because of cash flow violates the FLSA

With the current government shutdown, many employees have been furloughed. Others have been described as “essential” and are required to work for no pay, with the promise of getting all monies owed them when a new budget is authorized. It has happened in the past, as described below, but this time it is going to carry on for a longer period of time.
